CE.FO.PS., Centre de Formation Polytechnique de Shyira, is a ministry of Shyira Diocese, and was conceived by Shyira Parish. CE.FO.PS offers vocational education, an opportunity that was, until recently, unavailable in this area. Current vocational courses include Carpentry, Electricity, Welding, Auto-mechanics, Sewing, and Masonry/Construction. Additional courses are English, French, biology/health/hygiene, techniques in sustainable agriculture, and computer and Internet skills.
Course curriculum consists of two parts. First, theory is taught in a classroom setting. Practicals (hands-on application of course theories) are then taught in the workshop. Students return frequently to the classroom and learn theory behind increasingly complex techniques. We believe this integrated method of education, in which the concept is learned first and practiced afterward, will equip our students with both the knowledge and the experience needed to find or create future employment.
