Because the King Family moved to Shyira when Lydia, age 2, was only six months old, she thinks she is Rwandese and not Mzungu (white person). Her birthday is October 13, 2002. She has learned a lot of Kinyarwanda from the house staff and often speaks to them in the language. Her interests include carrying her doll on her back like local mothers do with children, dancing in the style of the CE.FO.PS dance team, and anything “pink”. She also enjoys visiting her brother and sisters at school. She loves animals, but sometimes gets carried away in her excitement (she was recently found covering the white kitten in green paint). Her best friend is Moses, the son of Beatrice (head of house staff).
